ABOUT
BENITA VON SASS

A versatile philanthropist, actor, film director, screenwriter, producer and entrepreneur

Applying her diverse experience in leadership and aesthetics, Benita von Sass officially completed her Master’s Degree in Filmmaking September 17, 2021 at the historic and prestigious London Film School in England to realise her life work. While immersing herself in all aspects of filmmaking - including recent work on short films as production designer, screenwriter and sound recordist - her passion remains director/screenwriter.

A proponent of lifelong learning, Benita von Sass more recently completed two sessions in strategic management and human resources toward a Master of Business Administration MBA in Canada. Having already earned a Bachelor of Arts in the Humanities studying philosophy and religion, she attended Law School at the University of Alberta, eventually opting instead for a career in business philanthropy.

Committed to humanitarianism, Benita von Sass has dedicated her working life to advocating for community improvement at the level of executive management. Working with bestselling authors, government leaders, and international luminaries, von Sass welcomed such notables as then-Canadian Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Norman Kwong and activist/polar explorer Sir Robert Swan to a range of charitable, tributary and fund-raising events.

Von Sass hosted high-end charitable fundraisers such as a Diabetes Association Fundraiser with renowned fundraiser Nick Lees together with the Edmonton Journal newspaper; a Hope and Harmony event for children with disabilities; a Fallen Heroes Tribute to Canadian soldiers; a Holocaust Remembrance Ceremony featuring a reading from the work of Nobel Laureate and Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel; and an extended threat assessment seminar with Professor of Clinical Psychology Dr. Reid Meloy to elevate Edmonton police, medical, and legal forensic protocol.

Over the years, Ms. von Sass has canvassed for the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, sponsored such causes as the Arthritis Society, and supported the Canadian Mental Health Association and the Alberta Teachers’ Association. Ms. von Sass continues to support Plan International, World Vision and the British Red Cross to this day.

Earlier in her professional career, von Sass founded an environmentally friendly greeting card business. The business model coupled the artwork of student artists with recycled Canadian paper.

Cards were sold in high end stores including the Canadian ‘Hudson’s Bay Company’.  Known as ‘Green Card’, the business represented one of her earlier efforts to support young Canadian fine art while operating a business based on the principles of sustainability.

A former full-time, now part-time model and actress, Benita von Sass has appeared in international commercials, film, and print advertisements including such firms as Casio, Ray-Ban, Avon, Toyota, Timotei, Clarion, The Hudson’s Bay, Nissan, and Mitsubishi among others.

Benita von Sass maintains fluency in German and English, and also possesses light conversational ability in French. A lifelong athlete, von Sass earned a Purple Belt in Shotokan karate, and she regularly bicycles, hikes, swims, and dances. She dedicates her leisure time to the care of animals.
